How to care for an itchy scalp

The scalp is probably the most frequently neglected part of the body when it comes to care. This is why it is particularly important to care for the scalp properly so that it can rebalance itself.

If your scalp is dry and itchy, you should use shampoos that are as mild as possible. The scalp also contains protective lipids that may be washed out by harsh shampoos, which in turn disturbs the skin barrier and dries out the scalp even more.

Products with a moisturising active ingredient, such as urea, which calms the irritated scalp again, are ideal.

In addition, it is important not to wash hair with water that is too hot. Although hot water initially relieves the itching, it also strips oils (lipids) from the scalp, which results in even more irritation in the long term.

It is always important to treat the scalp in order to ensure that the roots of the hair are not permanently damaged, which may result in disturbances of hair growth and hair loss.

Seven tips for looking after your scalp

  1. Do not wash your hair every day.
  2. Only use mild shampoos.
  3. If your scalp is itchy, use shampoos with soothing active ingredients.
  4. Wash your hair with lukewarm water wherever possible.
  5. After washing your hair, apply special tinctures to calm the scalp.
  6. Allow your hair to air dry wherever possible.
  7. In the summer apply sun screen or wear a hat.
