Skin reactions and skin conditions are the main causes of itching. There are numerous triggers that can lead to itching.

- Alcohol and nicotine consumption
- Medications
- Contact with chemical agents
- Stress and psychological pressure
- Insect bites
Dry skin is a major cause of itching, but particularly severe itching occurs in chronic or acute skin conditions. These include, for example, neurodermatitis and psoriasis. In these cases, the itching usually occurs together with eczema/rashes.
However, metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus can also cause itching.
In principle, the treatment/care of itching (pruritus) depends on the underlying cause.
